Cat's eye chrysoberyl is a very rare, attractive gem that displays a phenomenon known as chatoyancy that resembles the eye of a cat.

Cat's eye chrysoberyls are polished into cabochons with a narrow band of light that glides across the gem as it moves.  This cat's eye effect is caused by many parallel, fibrous needle inclusions that scatter and reflect light back in a single band.
