Tourmaline is a highly desirable gemstone that forms naturally in a wide range of beautiful colors. Its name comes from the Sinhalese word toramalli, meaning “mixed gems,” reflecting its incredible color diversity. Green tourmaline was first documented in 1554 during a Brazilian expedition led by Spanish conquistador Francisco Spinoza, but was originally mistaken for emerald until mineralogists in the 1800s confirmed it as a distinct gem species.
Fun Fact: Tourmaline is both pyroelectric and piezoelectric, meaning it is a gem that becomes electrically charged when heated or squeezed!
This natural orangy pink tourmaline is a bold and impressive gem, weighing 25.97 carats and measuring 22.80 × 17.43 × 8.93mm. It exhibits a visible window and some color zoning when viewed loose on a transparent background. However, as shown in the hand photo/video, these characteristics become much less noticeable when set or backed, giving this gem excellent potential in the right mounting.
