ABOUT THE ITEM
The Victorian Era is named after Queen Victoria, whose reign over Great Britain lasted from 1837 'til her death in 1901. The Victorian Era jewelry period is divided into 3 periods: The Romantic Period (c. 1837-1860), The Grand Period (c. 1860-1885), and The Aesthetic Period (c. 1885-1901), with each period having its own distinct characteristics.
This magnificent Mid-Victorian Era (circa 1860-1885) seal fob features a hand-carved intaglio mounted in a 14K rolled gold stamp, fully embellished with floral detailing. The fob is rather large, measuring 39mm long x 32mm wide x 46mm tall. It has a gross weight of 1.8 troy ounces.
The carnelian is hand-engraved with a shield that reads: "J'AIME ET CRAINS DIEU" which translates from French as "I love and fear God".
